Thank you SO much to everyone who has linked up the last several weeks for Thankful Thursday with Charlene and me. I have loved reading y’all’s posts. Every single one of you inspires me to give thanks for all the blessings in my life, big and small.
Today is the first Thanksgiving without my mom.
I am thankful for the last two Thanksgivings with my mom. I am thankful that in my 28 years, I’ve only missed 6 Thanksgivings with my parents (1 in New York, 3 in France, 2 in Ohio). I am thankful for years of quality time with my parents and my brothers. I am especially thankful for our last family vacation to Myrtle Beach back in April.
I am thankful for how kind and loving people have been to my family. Mom died more than 4 months ago. It still hurts. I still miss her every single day. I’m still grieving. I still feel lost and confused. I still need kindness, love, understanding, and patience, because I’m still not myself.
I am thankful for my mom’s extended family, who grieve alongside me. I only wish I could see them more often.
I am thankful to have married into such a great family. Not everyone gets to double (probably quadruple, since I married into a rather Catholic family) a loving family upon marriage. This is my third Thanksgiving in Ohio with my in-laws.
My first Thanksgiving in Ohio was in 2011, when I met the Flecks for the very first time. That sort of situation has the potential to ruin a relationship, but they somehow managed not to scare me off. Now I’ve been in Ohio without Dan for a week and a half, spending quality time with our friends and my in-laws.
On a lighter note, I’m thankful for the many pies we’re eating today! I plan on having at least one slice of apple pie and one slice of pumpkin pie. I may or may not have had pumpkin pie for dinner last night. It was delicious.
How are you celebrating Thanksgiving?
