Dating My Husband: First Picnic of Spring!

My husband and I celebrated the first beautiful weekend of 2015 by taking a romantic picnic!

After five weeks of a long-distance marriage, Dan and I are both thrilled to be together in Georgia. While we would be happy to be together anywhere, this weekend we took advantage of the early springtime weather! Sunday we had our first picnic together since last summer.

Our temporary lodging is in a beautiful network of connected neighborhoods, with several ponds and gazebos. One pond has a gazebo, several bench-swings, several picnic tables, and even a small parking lot for convenience. It was the perfect spot for our first picnic this spring.

When Dan was unemployed, we became experts at making our own food and not going out to eat. We’re doing our best to continue with these habits even though it’s no longer a financial necessity. For our picnic lunch, we made sandwiches and ate them with pretzel sticks, baby carrots, and drinks.

As usual, Dan and I overestimated how much we could both eat. Dan finished half his sandwich and all his carrots, with just a few pretzels. I ate all my sandwich and carrots, with just a few pretzels. I didn’t even open my box of Girl Scout cookies for dessert!

Dan also indulged my need for blog photography. The pond was just so beautiful. The day was so perfect. Clearly I needed pictures to share with my loyal blog readers!

And since I haven’t showed off my cute clothes in months–primarily because in Ohio, every outfit is warm layers underneath a warm coat–I asked Dan to snap a few pictures of my outfit.

Unfortunately, there was one depressing moment this weekend. While I’ve known for months that I’m underweight, my diminished size became apparent when I needed to wear a belt with my ankle jeans. I bought these jeans, plus another pair in red, back in the summer of 2013, when I weighed 110 pounds and worked part-time at JCP. They’re supposed to fit me snugly, but even with my belt, they felt loose.

Other than that stark reminder that my Crohn’s Disease has not improved, Dan and I had a wonderful weekend. While most of the weekend was fairly practical, I’m so glad we took the time to have a late picnic lunch just the two of us.

Dating my husband is definitely something I always want to keep doing. I plan to feature more of our dates on the blog in the future. We already have exciting plans for our anniversary in two weeks!

A new blog series about intentional dates with my husband #marriage

Dating your husband is so important! Hehe. We just had our first baby, so we are not doing well in that area lately. But you have inspired me to be more intentional about that! And man, do I love picnics! I’m so glad it is warming up. Aaaaand, despite your trials, your outfit is absolutely adorable. I wish you all the best!

You look great in that outfit! I’m diggin’ the hat. 🙂 We had some spring-like weather over the weekend and through today, but tomorrow our warm weather will be dampened with some showers. Oh, well. So long as there’s no more snow in our forecast, I’ll be happy!

What a fun date! You look adorable!!!!! I’m so sorry your weight is causing an issue. As much as I wish I could lose weight (especially this dang baby weight) I know it must be hard when it’s not intentional and being brought on by a sickness you can’t control.

power aid reminds me of college! hahaha. Also, I love your outfit. Those jeans are a total statement piece…I want a pregnancy maxi skirt in that color!! I’m sorry about your weight. I have a lot of extra laying around here if you want some… (haha) (probably not funny) I can’t imagine not being able to gain weight. I’m healthy now–and consider myself average, but if I don’t exercise I will gain a ton in a very short amount of time! I’ve never thought of it as a blessing before, but if I ever struggle with being underweight I’m sure I will!

Aww, what a fun date! We love picnics, but it’s been awhile since we’ve gone on one. Now that the time changed, it’s so much easier to make the time for it! Thanks for reminding me that I need to plan a picnic date before it gets too hot out. p.s. I love your new header! Super cute.

I love dating my husband! Even if it’s just dinner and a movie at home, it’s a great time to remember why you fell in love in the first place, and I feel a lot of couples get so complacent and take each other for granted and that is just so sad! Love the picnic (I spy Publix bakery bread :D), your outfit (that HAT!), and I’ve got you in my prayers! Thanks for linking up with us at Hump Day Happenings!! Hope to see you next week!

Yes, it’s so important to be intentional in marriage! Last night Dan and I ate dinner outside… as we discussed health insurance options. So it was halfway romantic. 😉

Oh man I do not miss Ohio weather. I grew up in Toledo. Although Germany weather isn’t a whole lot better, it is better than Ohio. Best was the weather in Florida where I lived for a few years before moving briefly to Georgia after which I ended up in Germany. It might be a bit far from you, but if you’re ever near Savannah, Tybee Island makes a fun place to go in the spring.

We were close to Toledo, in Findlay! It’s funny, because I thought living in France and in New York were cold enough to prepare me for Ohio… NOPE!

I love Savannah! I grew up in SC, so I went once with my Girl Scout troop and once with my family. Dan and I have a trip planned there for September!

This is such a great post! We did a picnic for our date day last month, and it was the best, most romantic, and peaceful time for the two of us. And you look wonderful! I hope your condition improves! Praying.

Picnics are so much fun! And they’re truly one of the most affordable dates you can have. 😉

Thank you so much for the prayers. I see a gastroenterologist today, so I’m hoping he’ll agree with my suggestion for some strong meds for a short period of time.

After living in Ohio (where it snowed again recently), we were SO excited for the beautiful Georgia weather! A picnic seemed like a great way to celebrate my week in Georgia, reunited with my husband after five weeks apart.
