I’ve actually spent pretty much the entire month taking care of my staph infection and my fungal (yeast) infection. The staph infection first showed up May 6th as a few spots on my face, and the fungal infection showed up as a rash under my breasts on May 8th. I finally saw a doctor on May 11th, and I’ve been obsessively dealing with this shit ever since.
Fun fact: oral antibiotics make fungal infections worse.
Another fun fact: dandruff is often the result of a yeast infection.
When you use your bath towel only once, and swap out your hand towel once a day, and only wear each shirt once, and change your pillowcase nightly, the laundry piles up way faster than usual. That takes up more time.
Washing your hands or using hand sanitizer obsessively throughout the day, and applying two topical treatments two times per day (and washing your hands before, in-between, and after), takes up a huge amount of time.
And as someone who usually showers every 3-4 days, showering daily or every other day with an anti-fungal shampoo and an antibacterial body wash sucks.
That’s just the ongoing maintenance, not counting the time spent disinfecting the entire house after my diagnosis or the three separate visits to the doctor.
Goals just seem really unimportant compared to desperately trying to improve your health.
May Recap:
For my career:
- I did not pitch any articles.
- I did not finish my course.
- I did blog regularly, 2-4 times per week.
- I created some content in advance for Friday’s The F-Word, but not nearly enough.
- If I had actually gotten this post done for June 1st, I would have written that I am thisclose to 10,000 followers on Instagram. But since I’m sharing my goals on June 2nd, I hit my 10,000! Yesterday I reached over 10,100 followers thanks to all the strategies I’ve learned from Instarevealed. (affiliate link)
For my health:
- I found a new infusion center. Sort of. It’s actually my original infusion center, since it’s basically the only one that will process my stupid insurance. And I left this infusion center because they insist on taking lab work every single time, which my gastroenterologist says is completely unnecessary. That adds 30-45 minutes to my infusion that already lasts 2 1/2 hours. And this infusion center is farther away.
- I transferred my recurring prescriptions to the mandatory mail-order service.
- I had to cancel my colonoscopy, though, because of my staph infection.
For my marriage:
- Plans changed slightly due to my illnesses and my nephew’s illness. My in-laws arrive today! We have a tentative schedule since all plans are tentative with a baby.
- Dan and I did look at our calendar for the summer which is completely booked.
For our household:
- The guest bedroom is clean and baby-proofed! Dan and I worked on it together.
- The living room is clean and baby-proofed! We also did that together.
- I cleaned all three bathrooms. Plus yesterday I re-cleaned the downstairs bathroom, and I did a very quick clean of our bathroom.
- We’re going grocery-shopping with Patrick and Emily tomorrow morning to buy what they like.
June Goals:
I basically have no goals for June. It’s my birthday month, so I do have a few birthday plans! I’m also visiting my dad for a week, for both Father’s Day and for his birthday. While I do plan to spend lots of time at the pool, I also plan on helping some extended family with a few things.
Finally, ever since Mother’s Day, I’ve been really depressed about my mom. She entered hospice care at the beginning of June last year, and she died July 13th. So I’m really just trying to keep myself busy with things that make me happy so I don’t spend my favorite month crying nonstop.
For my career:
- Blog 1-3 times per week. Yup, some weeks I might only blog once in June.
- Update 3 old blog posts.
- Do more with Massplanner. (affiliate link)
- Reach 4,000 followers on Twitter. I’m at 2,475+ thanks to Massplanner.
- Reach 11,500 followers on Instagram.
- Use the tips from Instarevealed Guides 4 and 6 so my posts hit 5% engagement after 24 hours.
- Reach out to three brands about blog/Instagram collaboration.
For my health:
- Assuming my staph infection finally goes away, schedule my colonoscopy and follow-up appointment. There is literally one day available in June and one day available in July for my colonoscopy. And only one day available in June for my follow-up appointment.
- Assuming my staph infection finally goes away, schedule my next Remicade infusion. It should have been this week, but I really don’t want to take my immunosuppressant while my body struggles to fight off an infection.
- Continue obsessing over the cleanliness of my skin until I no longer have any rash of any kind.
For my marriage:
- Schedule at least one at-home date night.
- Continue to tell him how much I appreciate his love, patience, and understanding while I am both physically and emotionally unwell.
For our household:
- Clean the bathroom properly, since I just did it quickly yesterday
- Clean both the guest bathroom and the downstairs bathroom.
- Clean the guest bedroom.
- Buy all the birthday party food.
- Decorate the living room for my party.
- Bonus: help Dad tackle small amounts of Mom’s things
- Bonus: help my uncle clean out my grandmother’s things
- Bonus: help my great-aunt with whatever she needs help cleaning out
