3 Things You Don’t Know About Me // Volume 6

Did you miss learning a few tidbits about me last month? I love sharing more about my sponsors and me every month!

Exciting News: I’m now adding a blog link-up to this monthly post! If you want to be a co-host, check out my advertising options.

What do you not know about me?

What You Don’t Know About Me

1. I did a lot of community theatre growing up. My best role was playing Brigitta in The Sound of Music. My mom played Frau Schmidt, the housekeeper. We only had four weeks between the initial read-through and Opening Night, which is a ridiculously short period of time for a musical. That summer was one of the best summers of my life!

2. I know I’m more than a little obsessed with Disney princesses, but my favorite Disney movie as a kid did not feature a single princess. For many years, 101 Dalmatians was my favorite movie of all time! Today my favorite Disney film is probably Beauty & the Beast.

3. Last week I did NOT get to see the first showing of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 2. Thursday night, I was hanging out with my best friend McPhee, and I didn’t think a movie would make for quality time. Plus I wanted to see it with Dan! I saw the first three films at early showings, but I didn’t mind waiting a bit longer to see the conclusion. Dan and I saw it last night with his oldest brother Nick. Spoiler alert: it’s just as depressing as the book.

A multimedia journalist, Dana blogs at The Whisper Box about books, movies, music, and more. Like me, she’s working on a 30 by 30 list… But she has a lot more time to finish her goals than I do! If you look to celebrities for style inspiration, check out Dana’s Wardrobe Wednesdays. She compares the high-end, celebrity looks with affordable alternatives.

What You Don’t Know About Dana:

Dana has never had a cavity! (Knock on wood). I’m more than a little jealous of that.

Guen blogs at her self-titled blog Mrs. Maher about travel, fashion, knitting, and more. She is an ex-pat living in America who recently received her green card! You can read all about her visa timeline. Her husband looks like a swell guy considering he dressed up as a Star Trek officer for Halloween.

What You Don’t Know About Guen:

Guen doesn’t eat vegetables, but she still knows how a recipe would taste if it’s cooked with vegetables. For example, she loves Kung Pao Noodles! But if it’s made with vegetables, she doesn’t like it. Sounds a bit like my picky eater husband…

I just read about someone who has visited Disney and all the princesses over 20 times. That sounds like it would be right up your alley!

I find it ironic that you like the princesses so much and at the same time are so pro women’s rights and feminism. Almost all the princesses rely on/are saved by men.

I would love to visit Disney more than 20 times! There’s so much to do and see in the parks, though, that I’m not sure I would make a point of meeting all the princesses. Dan and I did eat breakfast at the character restaurant in EPCOT’S Norway, which allowed us to meet (and get photos with!!!!!) Belle, Aurora (Sleeping Beauty), Snow White, Ariel, and Cinderella. I’m not sure if I was more excited about eating the food of my people (I’m 3/8 Norwegian) or meeting so many princesses. Dan was just impressed at how efficiently the entire restaurant plus meet & greets were run. Can you tell he’s an engineer?

I completely admit that my love for Disney princesses does seem at odds with my staunch feminism. But aren’t we all consumers of pop culture in one way or another? I accepted long ago that I can love media while still criticizing it. I actually read a great article once that pointed out the parallels between the criticisms of diehard Star Wars fans of the Ewoks (plus the prequels) and the criticisms of feminists of films we love.

      It’s such a great film!

I really want to watch the new hunger games but I really don’t want to see how dark it is. I have a feeling I might wait for that one to come out on DVD.

Honestly, it depends on how you feel about the book Mockingjay. I read the entire trilogy twice, and when I finished my reread, I decided I would never again reread Mockingjay, although I might choose to reread The Hunger Games or Catching Fire. Mockingjay is just SO depressing. The second half of the movie is very true to the book. I thought it was a good adaptation. I’m glad I saw the film. But the film is just as dark as the book.

ooh what a fun link up to add to this post! Also, I LOVE that you were Brigitta and your mom was in the show! How special! This past summer with The Music Man was one of the best of my life. I’m so glad you have those memories!

Now that I have a paid account with inlinkz, I thought adding a link-up to my monthly sponsor post would perk it up a little. I know I can do more with it, but this is my first time!

Some of my sorority sisters actually called me Little von Trapp. That actually started because Brita is similar to Brigitta, but it stuck once I explained the actual connection. 🙂

Ooh fun post linky idea 🙂 Oh yea, Mockingjay was very good, but I agree with you that it was depressing like the book. Maybe that’s why I also wasn’t in a hurry to watch the conclusion. So awesome that both you and your mom were in a production together!
