How to Recover from a Lazy Vacation and Restart a Healthy Lifestyle

This is a sponsored post through Brandbacker. All opinions are my own. I received skincare products in exchange for my honest derma e review.

My husband and I definitely relaxed during our week and a half in Ohio. We drank and ate whatever we wanted, stayed up late and slept in, and completely forgot about exercise. I definitely needed the R&R, and I won’t let some time off interfere with my overall healthy goals.

Our vacation habits were a far cry from the healthy habits I maintained all through August. I could have continued making indulgent choices when our vacation ended. Instead, I chose to restart my healthy lifestyle immediately.

It’s easy to get off track from a balanced diet and exercise while on vacation. Short-term indulgences won’t ruin your healthy lifestyle. You can recover from a lazy vacation with these tips.

Did you lose track of your healthy goals during vacation? With these tips, you can bounce back immediately! | Belle Brita

Start your morning with a healthy breakfast.

I love cereal and Pop-tarts as much as the next person. But on your first morning back from vacation, make healthy choices at breakfast. Eat some fruit with full-fat plain yogurt (yes, that’s healthier than low-fat, sugary yogurt). Make a bowl of oatmeal with peanut butter. I restarted my healthy lifestyle with two eggs and bell peppers for breakfast. That first healthy meal helped me make good food choices the rest of the day!

Resume your fitness routine.

If you skipped your workouts while on vacation, you did not ruin your fitness goals. Just resume your fitness routine on your first day back. Even if you’re not able to run as far or workout for as long as usual, any intentional physical exercise will help you recharge your healthy habits. For my first two weeks after my vacation, I worked out for at least 20 minutes each day, Monday to Friday. Every little bit helps!

Drink water all day.

You don’t actually need soda during the day and alcohol with dinner. While I certainly enjoyed both while on vacation, I cut drastically back on my consumption once I returned home. If you need caffeine to survive your first day back at work, try black or green tea, preferably unsweetened. I start most mornings with a large mug of black tea. Fruit-flavored black tea is sweet enough that I don’t need to add sugar or honey to it!

Fall asleep at a reasonable hour by preparing for bed early.

I try to fall asleep by 11pm. Thus I am in bed, lights out, by 10:30pm. To help me unwind at the end of the day, I follow a few simple steps.

  • I do my best to turn off my laptop by 9pm. For me, this has nothing to do with the admittedly strong research about lighting and melatonin and stuff. I need to get my mind off my blog well before I want to fall asleep. Turning off my laptop by 9pm helps me achieve calm thoughts by bedtime.
  • I wash my face and moisturize with DERMA E Natural Skincare. Nothing relaxes me more than clean skin. Using products recommended for my skin type, I first cleanse my face and neck. After I pat my face dry on my towel, I apply a cool gel moisturizer. Finally I gently pat an eye cream on my eyelids and under my eyes.
  • I spray some lavender spray on my pillow. You could also take a hot bath with lavender bath salts or light a lavender-scented candle. Lavender produces a calming, relaxing effect.

Turning off your computer, taking care of your skin, and indulging in the scent of lavender will all help you fall asleep at a reasonable hour. Then you can wake up at a good time the next morning, eat another healthy breakfast, and not depend on caffeine to get you through your day!

Even if you’re not returning from vacation, every day is a good day to start making new healthy habits. With a little help from DERMA E, you can start or improve your skincare routine today!

Even if you’re not “crunchy” about your skincare, derma e might be right for you. With my sensitive skin, I’ve had an allergic reaction to every eye moisturizer I’ve tried. After using several different expensive eye creams over the years, I gave up and just used petroleum jelly. Then I tried derma e Hydrating Eye Crème.

This stuff is amazing. After a week of testing these products, my eyes no longer itch periodically. My eyelids are no longer covered with flaky dry skin. Best of all, I haven’t had a single allergic reaction! No skin swelling, no redness of skin, no watery eyes.

Dan and I have both been using the Purifying Gel Cleanser and the Soothing Oil-Free Moisturizer day and night for over a week now. Dan doesn’t have dry eyes, so only I’ve been testing the Hydrating Eye Crème. Our skin looks and feels amazing!

Oh, and Dan being Dan, he used his forehead as the “control.” So he only used water on his forehead all week, no soap or moisturizer of any kind. Whaddya know, his acne broke out on his forehead, but not on the rest of his face, where he used the Purifying Gel Cleanser and Soothing Oil-Free Moisturizer two times a day.

My husband and I loved using derma e products for a week! While it's hard to tell in these photos, our skin felt so much better after using derma e products morning and night.
I usually edit all of my blog photos. These are unedited. I tried to take them in natural light next to a window, but it was a sad, gray day when we took the After photos. Thus we had the overhead light on, while standing next to the window.

If you do try the Soothing Oil-Free Moisturizer, Dan and I both have a word of caution. Dan says the product stings if you apply it right after shaving. It also stung when I applied it over my eczema. This did have the positive side effect of convincing me to use my prescription ointment regularly, until the eczema on my face cleared up. Now my moisturizer works great!

To find the right derma e natural skincare line for you, take their personalized evaluation. Answer a few questions about your skin type and skin concerns. DERMA E will then recommend the right products for you!
