Thankful Thursday: Best Friends Reunited

This month, I'm thankful for my best friends around the globe.

As you read this post, Dan and I are on our way to Montreal to celebrate my best friend Chantal’s wedding! Last year I wrote about the unusual French love story between my three best friends and me. This weekend, all four of us will reunite for the first time since July 2010.

A quick recap, in case you don’t feel like reading last year’s post.

Amelia is Australian. Jessica is American. Chantal is (obviously) Canadian.

I am the youngest. Chantal is the oldest, but we’re only 3 years apart, almost to the day. My birthday is June 8th, and Chantal’s is June 2nd.

Hanging out with my best friends in France! We all worked as au pairs together.

The four of us were all au pairs in the suburbs of Paris for the 2009-2010 school year. Amelia started before any of us, in Spring 2009. Jessica stayed the longest, through January 2011. The kids we watched were all from multi-cultural families, and they all received a bilingual education. Their parents hired native English speakers to work as live-in au pairs.

The four of us met, and magic happened. We became a group of four best friends. We even got matching tattoos!

My first tattoo is a matching tattoo with my best friends!

So now the four of us (plus Amelia’s boyfriend, and Chantal’s husband-to-be, and Dan–Jessica’s boyfriend will be missing, alas) are together again! Chantal and Jérémy are hosting a BBQ on Sunday, which will give us quality time outside of the wedding festivities to catch up. Dan has promised to take hundreds of pictures of the four of us. In France, we were lucky that our photographer friend Clare enjoyed taking pictures of us.

When I lived in France, my friends and I loved going to this Portuguese bar. This is from our last night together.

I am so thankful to have these women in my life! They’re the kind of friends I don’t need to talk to regularly, but I can always count on them when I need them. They have supported me through all the ups and downs in my life over the last five years. They possibly know more about me than Dan does!

If I’m quiet on social media the next few days, it’s partly to avoid roaming charges on my phone, but mostly because I am soaking up every minute with Amelia, Jessica, and Chantal!
