Giving Thanks to God

After ten hours on the road, and a wonderful evening with my parents, this is getting written a lot later than planned. I’m celebrating the week of Thanksgiving with a post of every day giving thanks for all the blessings God has given me, even among recent challenges.

Thanksgiving shouldn't be the only time we give thanks to God. | Belle Brita

I couldn’t possibly start a week of Thanksgiving without first giving thanks to God Herself. Everything else I blog about this week is all thanks to Her.

For everything I am, I give thanks to God.

For everyone in my life, I give thanks to God.

For everything I have, I give thanks to God.

For everything good in my life, I give thanks to God.

The Bible is filled with beautiful verses reminding us to thank God for the blessings She has bestowed upon us. With the helpfulness of the Internet, it’s easier than ever to find the verses you need, no matter your spiritual needs. Below are just a few of the verses inspiring me for my week of Thanksgiving. It’s little surprise that I’m particularly drawn to the beautiful poetry of the Psalms. (All verses are NRSV).

Psalm 7:17 I will give to the Lord the thanks due to his righteousness, and sing praise to the name of the Lord, the Most High.

Psalm 28:7 The Lord is my strength and my shield; in him my heart trusts; so I am helped, and my heart exults, and with my song I give thanks to him.

Psalm 95:2 Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving; let us make a joyful noise to him with songs of praise!

Psalm 100:4 Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise. Give thanks to him, bless his name.

Psalm 106:1 Praise the Lord! O give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; for his steadfast love endures forever.

This week, as you spend time with your loved ones, and you eat delicious food, and you enjoy time off work, don’t forget to send up a prayer of thanksgiving to the One who makes it all possible.

Come back every day this week while I count my blessings, including my loved ones, France, America, and more. I would love to know what you’re thankful for right now. Let me know in the comments!
