I felt like another brain dump, so here’s my second installment of Whatever Wednesday.
Note: post contains Amazon affiliate links, but I’m recommending books I’ve read.
Currently I am…
Reading: Hannah Swensen Mysteries by Joanne Fluke. Blame my best friend Rachel. She recommended them to me last month. I’ve already finished the first 13 books in the series, plus a few novellas. These are “cozy mysteries,” and yes, I do realize the irony of calling a murder mystery book series “cozy.” What I really love is texting Rachel whenever I have strong feelings about a book. She’s good about listening without sharing any spoilers.
Visiting: California! Since my last blog post, this is actually my second trip to California. Dan has been traveling a lot for work in recent months, and I keep tagging along. Earlier this year we were in Sacramento and Reno. Right now we’re in southern California, hopping between Hermosa Beach, Anaheim, and San Bernardino.
Listening to: Halloween music. Amazon Music has great Halloween playlists and stations. I just play the music included with regular Amazon Prime. It’s a great selection!
Prepping for: My panels on CONjuration! This fantasy convention will be the first weekend in November in Atlanta. I proposed two different panels, both of which were accepted. Two of my Wizards Unite friends are traveling from out-of-town to do the panels with me. I’m so excited! This is a big deal for a Harry Potter nerd.
Wearing: Pink glasses from Pair Eyewear. Words cannot convey my obsession with this brand… AND people compliment my glasses everywhere I go! They compliment my colorful frames, I reveal the magnetic tops, and they freak out. I kid you not. People honestly write down the brand after I talk about my glasses. Playing: Dungeons and Dragons. Yup, I’ve actually out-nerded myself. Earlier this year, I started playing DnD with a bunch of my friends online. We have the best time together!
You should know…
Multiple factors affect gas prices. My husband is a civil engineer who works in the energy industry. A bunch of his family and our friends also work in the energy industry. I promise, President Biden isn’t to blame for gas prices.
How to fact-check something before sharing it on social media. Y’all, memes are not facts. Screenshots are not facts. A photo still from a video, completely devoid of context, does not actually tell 1000 factual words. Before you share something, do a quick Google search. What do the top results say? Actually click on those links and read the relevant articles. Analyze the validity of each website you visit. Is it a reputable news source, or is it some random blog by an unknown person? Check the footer for fine print about satire.
What’s coming soon…
Surgery. Yup. After 25+ years with Crohn’s Disease, I’m finally having surgery. Most patients with Crohn’s Disease need surgery eventually, so this isn’t much of a surprise. While my inflammation is finally “mild,” I still have a stricture. This narrow, damaged part of my small intestine has a diameter of just 2-3mm while a healthy small intestine has a diameter of about 2.5cm. My surgery is scheduled for 8am ET on December 2, 2021. I will be in the hospital for 2-4 days after that. Please pray for healing! I really hope that I can slowly add insoluble fiber back into my diet after I recover from my surgery. This will improve my overall health because I will be able to eat healthy foods like beans, nuts, raw fruits, and raw vegetables.
Final Thoughts
Apparently I didn’t actually publish anything I shared in my last Whatever Wednesday post. Honestly, I’ve had a lot going on in my life this year, and I’ve needed to prioritize my health. I’m still working on my secret projects as well. However, I did publish multiple new blog posts on Muddling Through Together. I’ve also created new freebies for that website, and I’ve attempted to be more consistent with my email list. If you are looking to grow your Christian faith, please check out my other blog.
